Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial segments that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices. Scope of Position:
Glass Finishing Engineer in the Corning Advanced Optics division, with a focus in CNC machining technology in a manufacturing setting. The responsibilities for this role include production support in the form of new product introduction, process troubleshooting, delivering cost and capability improvements, conducting experimentation geared towards fundamental process understanding, capacity improvements and leading equipment upgrades/new vendor qualifications and overall process ownership. Day to Day
Responsibilities:
Owns processes and equipment related to glass finishing; delivers standard methodologies of safety, process control, ensures equipment maintenance & operations are implemented. Glass finishing processes include, but are not limited to abrasive water jet cutting, wire saw cutting, core drill operations, CNC milling, edge finishing, sandblasting operations. Provide floor leadership in problem solving, and technical expertise, to ensure timely resolution of short-term process/equipment issues, and higher-level troubleshooting in a multi-functional team setting. Provide general engineering and manufacturing skills and knowledge (understand theories and fundamentals), capable of leading projects and get to root cause of issues, and put permanent solutions in place. Work to resolve technical issues and implement tool/fixture design improvements to assist in the fabrication of current production parts. Work with our CNC programmers and operators to define the best machining processes, tooling and fixtures Create models, in process drawings, manufacturing routers and run plans for product fabrication Perform and documenting in-process quality checks on finished product using standard measuring devices, CMM, surface plates to verify accuracy and quality of work Support Implementation of capital equipment improvements Develops SME knowledge of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering and transfers knowledge to manufacturing. Supports product, process and equipment activities related to customer demo & prototype builds Supports new product introductions through equipment installation, process certification, documentation and training. Experience:
We require a Bachelor's degree in a Mechanical Engineering field We are seeking 5
years of work experience in a manufacturing setting. (Can include internship and co-op experiences) Experience in glass finishing field, technology transfers and pilot/prototyping engineering projects is desired Knowledge of MasterCAM Technical competence in basic process engineering Ability to read and understand product drawing requirements Hands-on experience with glass finishing processes using CNC machining centers Skills in 2-D and 3-D CAD (Solidworks preferred), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Travel Requirements:
Typical travel requirement is 10% or less. Desired Technical Skills:
Operational knowledge of CNC finishing and AWJ processes Documentation (technical writing), machine specification, SOP guides, and machine qualifications Basic statistics and reporting capability Knowledge of 5S and lean concepts beneficial Soft Skills:
Self-starter, able to function independently and in a team setting Interpersonal skills - open, engaging, enables others to perform at their best Open and approachable to effectively collaborate in teams in a multi-cultural environment Communicates effectively both in writing and presentation
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
