The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Purpose of Position:

Responsible for leading new and existing customers for optical materials

Major
Responsibilities:

  • Respond to customer inquiries for product quotes and technical information in a timely fashion
  • Build, implement, and maintain a sales plan that meets or exceeds performance requirements
  • Implement growth and drive programs with distribution
  • Build positive relationships with customers, distributors, and internal functional groups
  • Know your product and channel/market/customer dynamics/drivers
  • Provide leadership for account(s) during price and contract negotiation, ongoing relationship management, and operational issues.
  • Articulate product attributes, specifications, basis of competition, product trajectory to ensure advantaged products. Requires leading efforts to synthesize and assess competitive technologies or offerings
  • Contribute to development of pricing strategy and execute strategy aligned with internal partners.
  • Actively participate in tradeshows, exhibitions and/or conferences
  • Provide short and long term forecast to Corning business unit
  • Work actively with internal functional groups to represent customer viewpoint and identify winning strategies.
  • Lead all facets of responsibilities within framework of Corning s values

Required Education &
Experience:

  • We require a Bachelor s degree in engineering, Materials science degree program preferred
  • We are seeking 3-5 years experience in related manufacturing, technical, and/or sales role
  • 2
    years in customer facing position (preferred)
  • We need direct knowledge of optical materials, especially fused silica
  • Knowledge of key application spaces (optical fabricators and finishers)
  • Proficiency in customer relationship management
  • Proficient computer skills (Excel, Outlook E-Mail, Word, Power Point)
  • Experience setting and negotiating pricing
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with internal matrix functions
  • Eye for business and analytical skills
  • Previous sales experience with record of meeting or exceeding sales budget
  • Communicate both internally and externally
  • Prioritize and effectively manage time
  • Effective communicator including problem definition, decision/ recommendations and supporting logic/data
  • Desire to roll up sleeves to work directly with customers and internal project teams.
  • Handle business relationships using combination of data driven analysis, critical thinking, networking and interpersonal skills
  • Well organized, process oriented, has systematic approach to problem solving
  • Able to work independently

Travel:

  • We anticipate approximately 25% travel domestically

  • Provides rolling forecast on monthly basis
  • Contract negotiation

  • Key business objective performance as defined in annual priority rollout, including sales budget.
  • Formal and informal customer feedback
